A MAJOR government job is advertised in Darlington – and it ends in just under a week.
The Treasury is looking for someone to be the Deputy Private Secretary to the Secretary of the Exchequer to the Treasury.
According to the announcement, the successful candidate will be expected to begin work at the Darlington Economic Campus.
Once the Treasury is established in Darlington, a new permanent building could be constructed close to the National Horizon Center and the CPI, although no plans have yet been agreed.
What’s the job?
According to the job posting, whoever gets the civil service role will be responsible for providing “high quality” support to the Secretary of the Exchequer.

It states that responsibilities include: “Providing exceptional support to the Secretary of the Exchequer on matters which can be complex, fast-paced and often high-profile, including persuasively representing the minister’s perspective within the department.
“Ensure that the Secretary of the Exchequer receives consistent, high quality, clear and balanced advice to advance government priorities, and that he is informed of key emerging risks and advised appropriately on their management.
“Ensure that the Secretary of the Exchequer is well informed of meetings and events; attend and take minutes as required; plan and attend travel relevant to the portfolio of the position, in close collaboration with the office of hurry.
“Support the Secretary of the Exchequer in his parliamentary duties in the House of Commons on relevant policy matters, including House debates, select committee appearances and secondary and primary legislation; as well as correspondence with MPs and other stakeholders.
“Establish excellent working relationships with key stakeholders – Treasury officials, other Treasury Ministers and other departments and externals.

“Work with other Ministerial Private Offices to ensure that the private office function in the Darlington Economic Campus (DEC) runs smoothly for all Ministers, including organizing agendas, compiling records information and advice boxes, the supervision of logistics and the implementation of efficient technology.
“Support ministerial visits in and around Darlington, where the role is based (within a four person DEC MinComm unit).
“Contribute flexibly to the day-to-day running of the office and help create a positive, supportive and friendly work environment.”
Here is the salary and how to apply
The successful candidate will be paid between £29,320 and £35,000 with interviews starting at the end of the month on March 28.
