HYDERABAD: In what could be the second-largest recruitment drive after Telangana’s formation in 2014, the State Cabinet is expected to give the green light to fill around 50,000 positions in various government departments on Tuesday.

Principal Secretary (Finance) K Ramakrishna Rao held meetings with more than 30 departments on Saturday and Sunday to arrive at the exact number of vacancies in their respective departments. The Ministry of Finance must ratify each new position that will be filled by the government.

Vacancies will be provided to the State Cabinet, which will meet on Tuesday. Once Cabinet has agreed to recruit vacancies, the TS Civil Service Commission or other recruitment agencies will issue notifications in phases.

The state government claimed that in the past it had filled 1.3 lakh of public sector jobs, which includes RTC, Singareni and others as of 2014. The vacancies identified by the ministry Finance will be provided in the first phase. In the second phase, vacancies created after the promotion of officials will be filled.

However, it is not clear whether the government will also fill Group 1 positions. Since the formation of the State, no notifications have been issued to fill Group 1 positions. The State Government has recently created seven zones and two multi-zones. In the new zonal system, 95 percent of positions are reserved for local youth.

In addition to recruiting, the State Cabinet will also address Covid-19, agriculture, irrigation and other topics.

Job seekers have demanded to raise the maximum age for applying for government office to 44 instead of 34. Whether Cabinet will consider this remains to be seen.
