His Highness The Maharajas Government Law College, Ernakulam in association with Lex Erudites, E-Journal is organizing the 2n/a edition of the 2022 International Virtual-Mediation Competition (IMC-V-2022) by inviting teams from all over the world. Taking place virtually from July 1-3, 2022, the competition aims to improve mediation and negotiation skills and also to offer all participants the opportunity to attend an exclusive workshop led by leading experts in the field of mediation .

About the organizers

His Highness the Maharajas Government Law College, Ernakulam is an undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate legal education institution in Kochi, Kerala, India. Founded in 1874, it is the first law school in the state of Kerala and also one of the oldest law schools in India. It is affiliated with Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. The college has been a recognized research center in law of Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam since 2010. Alumni of the college include Honorable Chief Justice (Retired) of India KG Balakrishnan, Justice KM Joseph, Justice, Supreme Court of India and NR Madhava Menon, Indian civil servant, lawyer and legal educator.

Lex Erudites is a humble initiative of select undergraduate law students whose primary vision is to provide a platform for socio-legal discourse and scholarship. Lex Erudites volunteers to inspire budding young minds from distinct fields of study to ink their free-spirited and reasoned thoughts and opinions, contributing to informed and participatory citizenship. As an electronic journal, we seek to advance knowledge across borders in the field of law. Lex Erudites seeks to bridge the gap between legal fraternities around the world and also to create a deserving community of law students and legal professionals.

Dr Bryan Clark is Professor of Law and Civil Justice and Deputy Head of Academic Affairs at Newcastle Law School, UK. He was also a member of the advisory board of Lex Erudites. He had spent 15 years as a professor at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. The professor is a socio-legal scholar with an interest in mediation and alternative dispute resolution and in particular how these processes interact with formal civil justice and the workings of lawyers and judges. He is currently Chairman of the Validation and Accreditation Committee of Relationships Scotland, a former member of the Board of Scottish Mediation and a former member of the Academic Committee of the Civil Mediation Council. The Professor was also a member of the expert group for the recent Single Procedure Mediation Promotion Bill for the Scottish Parliament.

Eligibility criteria and registration procedure:

Full-time or part-time law students; and only one team per institute can apply for the competition. Candidates can make the provisional registration through the official website lexerudites.com/imcv2022 no later than July 24, 2022.

Fee structure:

Both Indian and international students are invited to participate in the competition. The fee structure for Indian teams is INR 2500and internationally, Teams is $40.

Awards and certificates:

Team Prize:

  • Winners: The winning team will receive a cash prize of Rs.15,000/- and a set of certificate courses to team members by our supporting partner Enhelion Knowledge Ventures Pvt Ltd.
  • Best Mediator: The best mediator will receive a cash prize of Rs 5000/- as well as a certificate course by our knowledge partner Enhelion Knowledge Ventures Pvt Ltd.
  • Finalists (Team): Finalists will receive a cash prize of Rs 10,000/-
  • Participants: A certificate of participation (hard copy) will be issued to teams participating in the two rounds of the preliminary phase.
