Lagos opposes government officials frustrating housing development efforts

The Lagos State government is poised to take action against government officials who thwart its efforts to secure housing development in the state, threatening to fish them out and treat them mercilessly.

It comes at a time when several cases of building collapses have been reported across the state, resulting in many casualties.

This warning was given by the Governor of the State of Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday, on the occasion of the opening of the 2nd Conference and Exhibitions of the Lagos Real Estate Market Square in Lagos, on the theme : “Lagos: 21st century real estate investment center. “

What the Governor of Lagos State says

Sanwo-Olu in his statement said: “We know that for this size of city, there will be people who want to cut corners. We know that for the size of this town, there will be officers who also brought us down, and who reduced our name, we know that.

“We are not going to stay here and say that everyone who works for us is holy, but we are dealing with them. These are major issues and we must all work together. I take this opportunity to also express my disappointment to certain government officials who want to sabotage our efforts.

“I will not only be ruthless, I will seek you out and make sure that you do not have your place in my government because it is an agency that wants to work for everyone. ”

According to NAN, the governor revealed that the state government has made plans to set up an appeal system to report improper practices.

He said, “People should trust us and make such reports because only when we get this feedback can we deal with the problem and get a better system out of it. We are on the way. Just have a little patience with us. It’s not for lack of knowing what to do, it’s for the ability for us to come together and prepare and be able to deliver. ”

The governor said that anyone who has completed a number of real estate developments should obtain the certificate of completion and a certificate of fitness for habitation from LABSCA.

At the end of the line

Housing sector stakeholders, including developers, have often expressed frustration with the alleged activities of some state government officials, who through their illegal actions tend to derail their projects.

Some of the government officials have been accused of failing to enforce the state’s land use planning laws, resulting in illegal and substandard buildings across the state.

The implementation of this plan by the Lagos State Government would really help reduce the incidents of building collapses in the State as well as significantly reduce the level of corruption tendencies of these government officials.
