Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday handed over a government employment certificate to the brother of deceased IB officer Ankit Sharma, Ankur Sharma, the chief minister’s office said.

Ankit Sharma was an Intelligence Bureau officer killed during the riots in northeast Delhi.

Ankur Sharma has been assigned to the Delhi government’s education department, the CMO said in a tweet in Hindi.

Last year, Kejriwal presented a check for Rs 1 crore to Ankit Sharma’s family, the CMO said.

Kejriwal said the government will continue to help the family in the future.

“The loss of life can never be satisfied, but with this work from the government and the help of Rs 1 crore, the family will grow stronger. Also in the future we will help the family in any way we can,” the Chief Minister said in a tweet in Hindi.

Ankit Sharma was found dead in a sewer near his home in the Chand Bagh area, northeast of Delhi, in February 2020.

In March 2021, the Delhi government announced that it was offering government employment to Ankur Sharma.

Riots had broken out in northeast Delhi on February 24, 2020 after clashes between Citizenship Law supporters and protesters escalated, leaving at least 53 people dead and around 200 injured.

In a statement, the Delhi government said Kejriwal had fulfilled its promise to provide government employment to Ankit Sharma’s relatives.

“Kejriwal Government appoints Ankur Sharma as ‘Junior Assistant’ in the Department of Education,” the statement said.

The chief minister also met Ankit Sharma’s family on Thursday and deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, who holds the education portfolio, was also present at the meeting, he added.

“He encouraged Ankur to accept the offer and join the department as soon as he could and wished him well on this occasion,” the statement read.

Earlier today, Sisodia tweeted: “Ankur Sharma, brother of Delhi riot victim and former IB staff member Ankit Sharma received work certificate from CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal. Ankur Sharma is appointed to the Department of Education, Government of Delhi.

Meanwhile, Ankur Sharma said the Delhi government has supported her family every step of the way after her brother’s death, the statement said.

“The CM provided us with financial assistance. Today CM offered me a job in Delhi Government,” the statement quoted Ankur Sharma as saying.
