Draft amendments to the Sindh Local Government Act have been prepared.
The amendments were made to various clauses of the Sindh Local Government Act. The amended bill will help remove obstacles to local elections in Sindh, sources said.
A separate draft of amendments relating to the financial and administrative powers of local councils and elected representatives is also under consideration.
The amended Local Government Bill will be presented at a Sindh Cabinet session. A session of the provincial cabinet was convened on May 10 after the Eid holidays.
It should be mentioned here that a session of the Sindh Assembly was also convened during this month.
The MQM and the PPP had concluded in March an 18-point agreement called the “Charter of Rights”.
According to the agreement, the PPP and MQM-P had agreed to implement in letter and spirit the Supreme Court’s ruling on local councils in Sindh within one month.
The two parties had agreed to consult on the amended draft local government legislation.
