Syed Ali Shah Geelani’s grandson dismissed from government post

The government of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday ended the service of Anees-ul-Islam, the grandson of separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, due to security concerns.

Islam worked as a research officer at the government-controlled Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Center in Srinagar.

The ordinance putting an end to Islam stipulated that the lieutenant-governor of the territory of the Union was convinced, on the basis of the available information, that his activities were such as to justify his dismissal.

“And while the Lieutenant Governor is satisfied under sub-clause (c) of the conditional clause of clause (2) of Article 311 of the Constitution of India that in the interests of security state, it is not appropriate to conduct an investigation [in Islam’s case]…. Consequently, the lieutenant-governor dismisses Mr. Anees-ul-Islam… of his functions with immediate effect ”, indicates the order.

There had been pressure “from the upper echelons of government” to appoint Islam to the post, NDTV said, citing an unidentified official.

“It is suspected that the immediate appointment to a post equivalent to official grade in the government-funded and controlled SKICC was an agreement to curb violence during Burhan Wani’s unrest between the then chief minister. and Geelani, “the official added to the channel.

Wani was a Hizbul Mujahideen activist who was killed at the age of 21 in 2016 by security forces. Wani’s death sparked violent protests and reprisals across the valley. Islam has reportedly helped some people fly drones in and around Srinagar to film the protests that erupted around that time, according to NDTV.

Geelani died in Srinagar on September 2. Geelani’s son-in-law and father of Islam, Altaf Ahmed Shah, is currently being held at Tihar Prison in Delhi in connection with a terrorist financing case.

Meanwhile, the government of Jammu and Kashmir also terminated the employment of Farooq Ahmad Butt, a teacher at Kathawa Doda Public Middle School in Jammu, using the same constitutional clause, Indian express reported.
