Telangana raises the retirement age for civil servants to 61; announces a major salary review

In happy news for Telangana government employees, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has raised the retirement age from 58 to 61.

The chief minister also announced a 30 percent salary review for state employees.

While the salary review would apply from April 1, 2021, the change in the retirement age would come into effect immediately. The goal is to use the services of experienced employees, CM said. Raising the retirement age is a promise in the TRS election manifesto.

Making the announcement to the state assembly on Monday, Rao said the 11th salary review had been delayed due to the budget deficit caused by Covid-19.

“Although the state is going through a severe financial crisis, it has been decided to pay employees the 12-month arrears associated with the salary review,” Rao said, adding that the arrears would be paid with pension benefits.

In addition to the salary review for employees and teachers, CM Rao said that the salaries of contract workers, outsourcing, Home Guards, Anganwadi-Asha workers, SERP, Vidya volunteers, KGBV , employees of Sarva Siksha Abhiyaan, machines at the village level, grant aid, the daily wage and other employees – totaling more than 9.17 lakh, would be increased.

Employee unions who were previously agitated by the 7.5 percent review suggested by the CR Biswal panel expressed their gratitude to the CM for the windfall.

Also in 2014, the Rao government revised the 10th salary commission scale and provided an adjustment of 43%.

In view of the Nagarjuna Sagar assembly by-election on April 17, Monday’s announcement was made after clearance from India’s Election Commission.

“The government has taken a broader vision to address employee and teacher issues. We now expect employees to react accordingly and to devote themselves more to the performance of their duties and to work with full commitment in the public service without any interruption, ”said the CM.

Stating that 80% of the promotion process is complete, Rao said the government will immediately initiate the process for the remaining eligible employees and teachers. “Once this process is completed, all eligible employees will get promotions. The government will also shortly begin filling vacancies created by promotions. “
